Video Meeting Security: 8 Settings to Review Before Your Next Call
Video meeting security incidents — unauthorized participants, meeting recordings leaked, confidential information shared in wrong rooms — are almost always configuration failures rather than platform vulnerabilities. Eight settings cover the vast majority of practical video meeting security risks.
8 settings to review
- 1. Enable the waiting room: require the host to approve each participant before they enter. This prevents unauthorized access from shared meeting links.
- 2. Disable join before host: prevent participants from starting a meeting before the host arrives.
- 3. Require a meeting password or passcode: add a second factor beyond the meeting link, particularly for external meetings.
- 4. Lock the meeting after it starts: once all expected participants have joined, prevent new entries.
- 5. Restrict screen sharing to host only: prevents participants from sharing unsolicited content.
- 6. Disable participant recording: ensure only the host can initiate a recording.
- 7. Use unique meeting links: do not reuse meeting links across different groups or topics — especially for recurring meetings with external participants.
- 8. Review who has access to transcripts and recordings: workspace settings should define who can access meeting records and for how long.
MeetOye's security configuration
MeetOye includes waiting room controls, host-only recording, screen share restrictions, and workspace-level retention and access policies. For meetings requiring maximum privacy, strict E2EE mode disables all server-side processing. Workspace administrators can enforce these settings across all meetings in the organization rather than relying on individual hosts to configure each call.
